First Rain reviews: JazzTimes and American Songwriter

A little bit of both, jazz and folk, in First Rain. JazzTimes’ March 2010 issue (under the Vox section) reviewed First Rain. Christopher Loudon’s review was very nice and highlighted the album’s “quasi-pastoral themes” and my “dew-soft arrangements.” I scanned in a copy since I couldn’t find it online yet. Also, LA Times jazz critic Don Heckman included First Rain as part of Jazz Times’ Critics Picks 2009 list for new releases.
American Songwriter’s March/April 2010 reviewed First Rain as well. David Mead’s Under the Radar column was very gracious and thought the “melodies unfold like Virgina Woolf’s best sentences, patiently building to an expected climax before transcending it like a sweet exhalation of air.” Whew, so beautifully written.
Much appreciation to both Christopher Loudon and David Mead for their wonderful reviews. Thank you.
